Belgian GP: Bottas sets early pace at Spa

Valtteri Bottas set the fastest time in the first on track running since the summer break, setting a time of a 1.45.199 in what could be the only dry running of the day, or even the weekend. Lewis Hamilton looked on course to match that but a run in with Nicholas Latifi on his fast lap meant he could not set a competitive time.

Max Verstappen set the second fastest time ahead of Pierre Gasly in third and the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in fourth and fifth.

Sergio Perez was sixth for Red Bull, ahead of Sebastian Vettel in seventh and Lando Norris in eighth. Whilst the two Alpine cars of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso round out the top 10.

Aside from Kimi Raikkonen clipping the pit entry barrier, it was a relatively uneventful session as teams maximised what might be the last of the dry running today.
