Hungarian GP: Hamilton makes a statement in qualifying

It was Lewis Hamilton who took a convincing pole position with an incredible lap, a fair margin ahead of his team-mate Valtteri Bottas. A disgruntled Max Verstappen did everything he could to qualify in third ahead of Sergio Perez in fourth and a great showing from Pierre Gasly in fifth. Lando Norris starts in sixth ahead of Charles Leclerc, Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel

Daniel Ricciardo just missed out on Q3 to qualify in eleventh ahead of Lance Stroll in twelfth and the two Alfa Romeos of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi. Whilst the biggest moment of the second part came from Carlos Sainz, who crashed at the final corner. He attempted to drive back to the pits but eventually had to park up, and he ends the session fifteenth.

Yuki Tsunoda fell at the first hurdle for the sixth time this season ahead of George Russell, who ends his run of progressing from Q1 and qualifies in seventeenth. Nicholas Latifi ends the session eighteenth ahead of Nikita Mazepin in nineteenth, whilst Mick Schumacher never rolled out of the garage as a result of his practice crash.

Here is the starting grid for tomorrow’s race.
