It was Lewis Hamilton who took pole for the sprint race to the delight of the British crowd, edging out title rival Max Verstappen by less than a tenth of a second. It could’ve been a bigger margin, he fluffed his final qualifying effort at the last corner, but Max was unable to respond.
Valtteri Bottas qualified in third ahead of Charles Leclerc in fourth, whilst Sergio Perez had his lap time deleted so qualified in fifth. Whilst Lando Norris qualified in sixth ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in seventh.
The star of qualifying was undoubtedly George Russell, who managed to drag his Williams not just into Q3 but to an excellent eighth, to the delight of the British crowd. Whilst Carlos Sainz and Sebastian Vettel rounded out the top 10.
Fernando Alonso set the eleventh fastest time ahead of a disappointed Pierre Gasly in twelfth and Esteban Ocon in thirteenth. Antonio Giovinazzi starts in fourteenth with Lance Stroll finishing fifteenth.
Yuki Tsunoda would’ve been disappointed to miss out on Q2 after a solid Austria, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in seventeenth, Nicholas Latifi in eighteenth and the two Haas cars of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin round out the grid.
