For the majority of the race it was a 3 way battle for the lead between Logan Sargeant, Matteo Nannini and Clement Novalak. With DRS being extremely effective, no one could break away from one another and that made them to swap positions pretty much every lap. Logan Sargeant then began to fade which left Nannini and Novalak out in front battling for the lead. And the pair of them then collided at Turn 4, which put the latter out of the race.
This gave Sunday polesitter Dennis Hauger, who had done a great fightback through the field from twelfth place on the grid to take victory and extend his championship lead. Olli Caldwell finished in second place for Prema, whilst Logan Sargeant rounded out the podium finishing in third place.
Victor Martins struggled for race pace but in the end finished in fourth place ahead of Jak Crawford in fifth place and Caio Collet in sixth place. Seventh went to Jack Doohan ahead of Matteo Nannini who brought his car home in eighth. Ayumu Iwasa fought through the field to finish in ninth, with Alexander Smolyar rounding out the points.
Frederik Vesti stalled on the grid but fought his way to thirteenth. Whilst there were 3 retirements. Clement Novalak, Arthur Leclerc, who retired seemingly with a car issue that sent him in the gravel, and Ido Cohen, who never really got started.
Here is the result of the first race of the weekend.
