It was a thrilling first race of the weekend in Paul Ricard for Formula 3 which saw Alexander Smolyar take his second victory of the season, passing a charging Victor Martins on the last lap to take the victory with a move at the chicane.
Victor Martins’ drive from tenth was charging and he led for much of the closing laps but fell short on the final lap to take the runners up spot. Ayumu Iwasa gave it his all, pulling off an aggressive move to lead a fair amount of the race. However in that overtake he put 4 wheels off the track, landing him a 5 second time penalty, dropping him to eighth.
Calan Williams finished on the final podium position from reverse grid pole to finish in third place ahead of Logan Sargeant in fourth, Clement Novalak in fifth and Juan-Manuel Correa in sixth. Jack Doohan finished in seventh ahead of Iwasa, Dennis Hauger and Olli Caldwell rounds out the top 10. Whilst shout out to Arthur Leclerc, charging from the back of the grid to take reverse grid pole for the afternoon race.
