The first Formula 2 race of the weekend saw a dominant display from Robert Shwartzman. He mastered the start and a safety car after a collision between Drugovich, Lawson and Piastri, which took the latter two out of the race. From then on he never looked back and he took a dominant race victory, with a gap of 5 seconds, which is what he needed after a tough start to the season.
Dan Ticktum fought his way from lower on the grid to finish in second place ahead of championship leader Guanyu Zhou in third. Jehan Daruvala will be quite disappointed having started on the front row to finish in fourth.
Theo Pourchaire pulled off a late race charge, taking the fastest lap on the final lap to finish in fifth ahead of Ralph Boschung in sixth. Marcus Armstrong finished in seventh ahead of Juri Vips in eighth. Felipe Drugovich finished in ninth on the road but a penalty for causing the first lap accident drops him to fourteenth. This promotes David Beckmann to ninth and Bent Viscaal to tenth, who takes reverse grid pole.
Here is the result of the first race of the weekend.
