The wind is not blowing as hard around the city streets as it is expected to later in the weekend, but it is the Red Bull of Max Verstappen who set the fastest time in the Red Bull, less than a tenth ahead of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. With Carlos Sainz in third, it was a good start to the weekend for Ferrari.
Sergio Perez set the fourth fastest time ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in fifth and Pierre Gasly in sixth for AlphaTauri. Multiple yellow flags prevented Lewis Hamilton setting a good lap resulting in him ending the session seventh.
Lando Norris was eighth in the McLaren ahead of Fernando Alonso in ninth with Valtteri Bottas finishing the session in tenth, he was also unable to get a laptime in what was a tricky first session blighted by yellow flags.
