It was a controversial end to qualifying where Charles Leclerc had provisional pole and crashed at the swimming pool chicane on his final run. This brought out the yellow flags meaning no one was able to beat his time, and he ended the session on top. However is the gearbox damaged, as if it is that would be a 5 place grid penalty.
Max Verstappen qualified in second for Red Bull with Valtteri Bottas qualifying in third. Carlos Sainz qualified in fourth ahead of another great qualifying for Lando Norris in fifth, and Pierre Gasly putting his AlphaTauri in an excellent sixth.
It was a dismal session for Lewis Hamilton who qualified in seventh after two scruffy laps. Sebastian Vettel had a good session to qualify in eighth ahead of a disappointing session for Sergio Perez. Whilst Antonio Giovinazzi pulled off a great performance to qualify in tenth.
Esteban Ocon just missed out on Q3, however the big shock of the session was Daniel Ricciardo who starts in twelfth. Lance Stroll starts in thirteenth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and George Russell, the latter once again making it to Q2.
Yuki Tsunoda qualified in sixteenth ahead of a shock Q1 exit for Fernando Alonso. Nicholas Latifi qualified in eighteenth ahead of Nikita Mazepin in nineteenth, whilst Mick Schumacher never got out as a result of damage from his FP3 crash.
Here is the provisional starting grid for tomorrow’s Monaco GP.
