F3 Spain: Caldwell wins as leaders collide. Twice.

It was a frenetic afternoon race in Formula 3 which saw two instances of leaders colliding. Enzo Fittipaldi had reverse grid pole but eventually lost out to David Schumacher. But when the pair battled it out they collided at the second corner that sent David into the barriers and out, with Enzo eventually stopping under the ensuing safety car.

This put Matteo Nannini into the lead, but he had a rapid Dennis Hauger right behind him and on the penultimate lap he went for it but the pair collided, taking off the front wing on both cars.

This allowed Olli Caldwell to take the lead. But on the final lap he had to resist an attack from Victor Martins. The MP driver was forced across the chicane and the battle was over. Olli Caldwell took his first ever Formula 3 victory, and Prema’s first win of the season, ahead of Victor Martins in second and Frederik Vesti in third.

Clement Novalak finished in fourth for Trident ahead of Caio Collet in fifth and Jonny Edgar in sixth. Ayumu Iwasa finished in seventh ahead of Jack Doohan in eighth, Jak Crawford in ninth with Juan Manuel Correa taking the final point in tenth.

Calan Williams finished in eleventh ahead of Arthur Leclerc who fought his way from the back in twelfth. There were 4 retirements. Enzo Fittipaldi, David Schumacher, Logan Sargeant and Alexander Smolyar. The latter two collided at the first corner.

Here is the result of the second F3 race of 2021.
