F2 Bahrain: Zhou finally takes maiden Feature Race victory

Guanyu Zhou has finally taken his maiden Feature Race victory. He dropped back at the start down to fifth on the harder compound of tyre but managed to fight his way back once he changed to the softs. He was able to get past Oscar Piastri, Christian Lundgaard and Richard Verschoor to take the victory.

Dan Ticktum gave it everything after an action packed race, which included a collision with Oscar Piastri, taking the latter out of the race. But he got up to second and almost took the win but he would have to make do with the runners’ up spot. Liam Lawson finished in third place ahead of Richard Verschoor, who benefited massively from the safety car resulting from Gianluca Petecof stopping on track, and led much of the closing stages. But he ran out of tyres and dropped to fourth.

Marcus Armstrong finished in fifth, also benefiting from the safety car ahead of Jehan Daruvala. Robert Shwartzman was on the back foot after a first lap incident with Roy Nissany landed him a drive through penalty, but he was another beneficiary of the safety car and he fought his way back to seventh. Theo Pourchaire finished in eighth ahead of Felipe Drugovich in ninth after a time penalty. With Matteo Nannini taking the final point in tenth.

David Beckmann finished in eleventh ahead of Christian Lundgaard, who led much the way but a time penalty dropped him out of the points. Juri Vips finished thirteenth, with Marino Sato, Ralph Boschung, Guilherme Samaia, Bent Viscaal and Lirim Zendeli rounding out the finishers. Oscar Piastri, Gianluca Petecof, Alessio Deledda and Roy Nissany failed to finish the race.

Guanyu Zhou leads the points after the first race by 11 points back to Liam Lawson in second and Jehan Daruvala in third.

Here is the result of today’s Feature Race.
