Guanyu Zhou took the first Formula 2 pole position of the season, having gone in the gap and managed to retake pole by just 3 thousandths of a second over his closest rival Christian Lundgaard. But he missed the checkered flag and accidentally did an extra lap, which puts him under investigation and threatens his pole.
Felipe Drugovich showed pace in the early stages of the session but will have to settle for third ahead of Dan Ticktum in fourth, Juri Vips in fifth, and Richard Verschoor, who qualified a surprise sixth. Jehan Daruvala qualified in seventh ahead of Oscar Piastri in eighth, Liam Lawson in ninth and David Beckmann takes reverse grid pole for the first race of the season in tenth.
Theo Pourchaire starts in eleventh ahead of Robert Shwartzman, who started well but his car shut down on him at the final corner, which caused him to stop out on track, bringing out the red flag and meaning he was unable to do a second run when the track was at its best.
Ralph Boschung qualified in thirteenth ahead of Marcus Armstrong, Roy Nissany and Bent Viscaal. Lirim Zendeli qualified in seventeenth ahead of Guilherme Samaia, Marino Sato and Matteo Nannini. The back row consists of Gianluca Petecof and Alessio Deledda.
Here is the result of today’s qualifying session.
