Abu Dhabi GP: Verstappen tops first practice at Yas Marina

It is not a very relevant practice session due to the differing temperatures to race running, and the majority of teams were focusing on 2021. But it was Max Verstappen who topped the session on a 1.37.378, 3 hundredths ahead of Valtteri Bottas in second place. Esteban Ocon set the third fastest time ahead of Alexander Albon in fourth place.

Lewis Hamilton had brake problems which left him garage bound for half an hour and he set his fastest time on the hard tyre, ending the session in fifth place, ahead of the two Racing Points of Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez. Daniil Kvyat set the eighth fastest time for AlphaTauri ahead of Pierre Gasly in ninth, and Kimi Raikkonen rounds out the top 10.

Robert Kubica replaced Antonio Giovinazzi in this session and ended fifteenth, whilst Mick Schumacher got his first taste of a Formula One weekend, setting the seventeenth fastest time. Whilst it was a bad session for Daniel Ricciardo, as he suffered an issue at the beginning of the session, forcing him to stop out on track and being unable to set a time.

Here is the result of FP1 from Abu Dhabi.
