Valtteri Bottas ended the second free practice session on top, two tenths ahead of his team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who had an eventful session, changing his steering wheel in the early stages and then getting momentarily stuck in the pitlane after he couldn’t find a gear.
Max Verstappen set the third fastest time ahead of Alexander Albon who had many times deleted but eventually set the fourth fastest time. Lando Norris was fifth ahead of Esteban Ocon in sixth and Sergio Perez in seventh. Charles Leclerc also had a lot of times deleted but ended the session eighth, with Daniel Ricciardo and Lance Stroll rounding out the top 10.
As mentioned before, there were mechanical failures during the session. George Russell entered the pits with smoke pouring from the rear of his car, before Kimi Raikkonen ground to a halt with a large fire coming from the back of his car resulting in a red flag.
