Sakhir F2: Daruvala takes maiden win whilst Schumacher takes title

Formula 2 saw an incredible title decider that looked like it could go either way. Dan Ticktum was on reverse grid pole and fended off Jehan Daruvala for much of the race. But eventually Jehan was able to find a way past the DAMS driver and he took his maiden win in F2.

Dan’s tyres were going fast and he had a fight on his hands to fend off Yuki Tsunoda. Eventually at the final corner of the race the Japanese driver managed to find his way through to take second.

The title fight was where all the interest was. Mick Schumacher got a great start but locked up at the fourth corner of the race, flat-spotting his tyre. He tried to continue but then began to fall down the order, as well as subsequent lockups. He eventually had to come in to change the tyre. Callum Ilott was in the hotseat, in third behind the battling leaders but his tyres then died as well, and he dropped down the order.

Guanyu Zhou completed a difficult season with a fourth place finish ahead of Robert Shwartzman in fifth for Prema. Giuliano Alesi finished in sixth ahead of Luca Ghiotto in seventh. The final point of the season went to Felipe Drugovich, with Nikita Mazepin and Callum Ilott rounding out the top 10.

Here is the result of the final Formula 2 race of 2020.
