In the early stages of Q3. Mercedes struggled. Max Verstappen was on provisional pole whilst Charles Leclerc did an incredible laptime to go second fastest, it felt so good that he decided to get out of the car and that he couldn’t go any faster. Eventually though Mercedes turned the wick up and Valtteri Bottas went provisional pole ahead of his team-mate George Russell. Russell gave it a good go on his final run but only just missed out by 0.026 of a second. Max Verstappen qualified in third ahead of Charles Leclerc, who’s initial time was enough to put him in fourth.
Sergio Perez qualified in fifth ahead of a great qualifying from Daniil Kvyat who starts in sixth place. Daniel Ricciardo starts in seventh ahead of Carlos Sainz in eighth, Pierre Gasly will be disappointed with ninth, whilst Lance Stroll rounds out the top 10.
Esteban Ocon just missed out on Q3 and starts in eleventh ahead of Alexander Albon, who had a dismal qualifying in twelfth to miss out on Q3. Sebastian Vettel will start in thirteenth ahead of Antonio Giovinazzi and fourteenth and Lando Norris in fifteenth, the McLaren’s worst qualifying of the year.
Whilst out of the first part of qualifying was Kevin Magnussen, who will start sixteenth, Nicholas Latifi in seventeenth, Jack Aitken who did a great job to get as close to his team-mate as he did in eighteenth, Kimi Raikkonen in nineteenth whilst Pietro Fittipaldi qualified last, but will start last anyway due to engine penalties.
