Bahrain GP: Hamilton takes pole with a stunner

The initial runs in Q3 saw Lewis Hamilton lead the way by a tenth and a half back to Max Verstappen in second, and 2 tenths back to Valtteri Bottas in third. Lewis then became out of reach when he set an incredible 1.27.264. Valtteri Bottas was able to get into second place ahead of Max Verstappen in third and Alexander Albon in fourth. Sergio Perez set the fifth fastest time at the end, ahead of the two Renaults of Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon. In eighth place was Pierre Gasly, ahead of Lando Norris in ninth, whilst Daniil Kvyat rounds out the top 10.

The two Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc were eleventh and twelfth on the grid, ahead of Lance Stroll who will be disappointed not to make Q3. George Russell got the very maximum out of his car in the first part of qualifying, pulling off a great lap to get into the second part of qualifying for the ninth time this year, whilst Carlos Sainz could not set a time due to a mechanical issue sending his car into a spin and bringing out the red flags.

Whilst out of Q1 was both Alfa Romeos of Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen, both Haas’s of Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean, the latter stating it was impossible to have fun in the car, with Nicholas Latifi rounding out the grid.

Here is the starting grid for tomorrow’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
