Bahrain GP: Lewis Hamilton hits the ground running

The Bahrain GP weekend is underway and Lewis Hamilton topped FP1 for the first time since Hungary ahead of his team-mate Valtteri Bottas in second. Whilst Sergio Perez in what could be his third to last race in Formula One set the third fastest time.

Carlos Sainz was fourth fastest for McLaren ahead of Pierre Gasly who will be hoping to repeat his performance here from 2018. It was an eventful session for Max Verstappen who had a spin at the final corner, flat spotting his tyres, ahead of Alexander Albon in seventh.

Esteban Ocon was eighth fastest for Renault ahead of Lance Stroll in ninth, whilst Daniel Ricciardo rounds out the top 10. Quite a few drivers came a cropper, which included Charles Leclerc spinning at the second corner, and Romain Grosjean having a lucky escape at Turn 6.

Roy Nissany and Robert Kubica completed their one off practice drives, whilst it wasn’t the most relevant of sessions due to track temperatures being different in the daytime running compared to the night time running we will have for qualifying and race. Here is the result of FP1.
