Emilia-Romagna GP: Bottas takes pole at Imola

For most of Q3 it looked like Lewis Hamilton had pole position. However in the final runs, Valtteri Bottas found an extra tenth and he snatched pole position from him. Max Verstappen qualified in third after his Q2 shenanigans ahead of Pierre Gasly, who demonstrated his and the team’s pace round this circuit to qualify in fourth. Daniel Ricciardo starts in fifth ahead of Alexander Albon who struggled with track limits throughout the session. Charles Leclerc qualified in seventh ahead of Daniil Kvyat who made Q3 for the first time in 2020. The two McLarens of Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz round out the top 10.

The big story of Q2 was Max Verstappen having a spark plug issue and looking to be out, however an incredible effort from Red Bull saw Max able to get out before the end of the session and make it into Q3. It was a bad session for Racing Point, with Sergio Perez qualifying in eleventh, whilst Lance Stroll had a laptime deleted which sees him down in fifteenth. Esteban Ocon starts in twelfth ahead of George Russell, who once again made it into Q2, and Sebastian Vettel who lost his final lap due to track limits.

Romain Grosjean will start sixteenth ahead of Kevin Magnussen in seventeenth, who made a mistake on his final run. Kimi Raikkonen had his final lap deleted due to track limits so will start in eighteenth ahead of Nicholas Latifi in nineteenth and Antonio Giovinazzi rounds out the grid.
